Dermalize Aftercare

Dermalize is a thin self-adhesive film that provides a moist healing environment during the
initial, and most critical, healing stage of a tattoo wound.
DERMALIZE
It protects the new tattoo from friction and provides a waterproof, anti-bacterial – barrier that
prevents pathogens and external contaminants from entering the wound.
The film is breathable, letting oxygen in and allowing excess moisture vapour to be released from
the wound.
Before you start applying Dermalize make sure to wash your hands. Measure the tattoo and cut pieces
off in sizes that you are comfortable to work with. Start by cleaning and drying the tattoo and
surrounding skin. Apply a very thin layer of a non-mineral oil ointment on the tattoo. We recommend
H2Ocean’s Aquatat or Tattoo Goo as an ointment.

The first piece of Dermalize Protective Tattoo Film can be left on the skin up to max 24 hours, the
exact time will depend on the amount of fluids that the wound exudes: this will vary to each person.
In case of copious bleeding or weeping, the film can be replaced with another piece before 24 hours
(a change after 4, 6 or 8 hours is also possible). It is advisable to change it whenever it gets dirty, too
loose or full of liquids. When removing the film, make sure to carefully wash the area with soapy
water, and gently pat dry the tattoo using a fresh, clean towel.
Apply a thin layer of H2Ocean’s Aquatat or Tattoo Goo to the tattoo to ensure a moist healing under
the Dermalize bandage. This will also make it easier to remove it later on. Any further application of
Dermalize can be kept on for a variable amount of time, depending on the client’s need, changing it
when you deem it necessary. The total suggested use of Dermalize, covering all applications, is
between 4 and 7 days.

REMOVING DERMALIZE FROM THE SKIN
Follow these steps to remove Dermalize Protective Tattoo Film:
Lift a corner of the film and stretch it horizontally along the skin surface to avoid breaking the
adhesive bond.
Continue stretching the edge of the film towards the centre.
When both sides of the film are partially removed, grab both sides at the same time and stretch them
horizontally and parallel to the skin until the entire film lifts up.
In case the film is particularly resistant, you can use some warm water or H2Ocean’s Aquatat
ointment or Tattoo Goo to aid removing the adhesive from the skin.
Once you have removed the second application of Dermalize (or third or fourth one to cover a total
period of 6-7 days) it’s not necessary to apply any more film to the tattoo. At this point the top layer
of the skin will start to dry, and in most cases this will look as if the tattoo is covered with a dry layer
of skin. This top layer of skin will start peeling and flaking. Don’t be alarmed if these flakes contain
some ink, this is perfectly normal. It’s very important to not scratch, pick or peel the skin as this
could cause new wounds and scarring.
You can shower and bathe normally. Dermalize is waterproof and will stay put on the skin even when
immersed in water. To avoid the adhesive bond from weakening, excessive exposure to water should
be avoided. Avoid swimming baths or swimming in the sea.
We do not recommend exposing your new tattoo to the sunroof tanning booths. For tattoos to look
vibrant, even when fully healed, it is important to use sun protection when being exposed to the sun
for a prolonged time. Dermalize does not contain any kind of sun protection.
